Why I built a cardiology programme for physicians

Dr A M Thirugnanam, MD, MSICP, FSCAI, Ph.D., Senior Interventional Cardiologist, Hyderabad

In the cath lab, I see the end of a story that began somewhere else: in a casualty department at 2 am, in a general physician’s clinic, in an ICU on the night shift. The patients who do best are very often the ones whose first doctor read the ECG correctly, recognised the emergency, and called early.

Over the years, physicians have asked me the same question after almost every talk: where can I learn this properly, in a structured way, without doing a cardiology fellowship? The Practical Cardiology Certificate is my answer.

It is the cardiology I wish every physician had been taught: practical, guideline-based, and focused on what to do next.

What I teach, and how

  • Twelve modules over twelve weeks, from the ECG to cardiac emergencies and special populations
  • Short recorded lectures you can watch between clinics
  • Four live case nights where we work through real ECGs and decisions together
  • A “when to refer” checklist at the end of every module
  • Weekly quizzes, a final examination and a certificate from the Academy of Elite Doctors

Who it is for

General physicians, MD Medicine residents, GPs, emergency doctors, intensivists, diabetologists and nephrologists. For cardiology fellows, my Interventional Cardiology Mastery and Board programmes open in 2027.
